Our new accessible studio building is now open!
Our new accessible studio building is now open! We had a wonderful opening ceremony on Monday, capturing a short window of calm weather between dramatic wind gusts and squalls of rain.
Gundungurra elder David King and Darug elder Chris Tobin held a smoking ceremony, and we welcomed alumni, community members, donors and volunteers, as well as representatives from our funding bodies, and from federal, state and local government. The opening of our new studio means that all writers, regardless of physical ability, are now able to stay at Varuna in comfort. We're very grateful for the support of project partners Create NSW, the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, and the NSW Government. We are also deeply grateful to you, our alumni and writing community, who contributed so generously last year to our crowdfunding campaign.
The studio is now open to bookings from our alumni (contact tom@varuna.com.au for more info), or alternatively, if you are in the Blue Mountains and you'd like to drop by and see the studio, you can check it out most Mondays. Early in 2021, we'll be announcing a new fellowship program for writers living with disability, so watch this space . . .
