Help Support Varuna

In 1989 Mick Dark bequeathed the Dark family home to be a place for the future writers of Australia to come to think and talk and write. Mick’s family home is now famous for the unique environment it offers to the nation's best writers who come to the house to work and to discuss the art and craft of their work in the company of their peers; this is Varuna – inspired by the generosity and creativity of the Dark Family through the Eleanor Dark Foundation – playing a vital role in Australian cultural life.

You too can support the Eleanor Dark Foundation by becoming a Corporate Partner or Patron of Varuna, the National Writers House.

Throughout the many years that Eleanor Dark lived and worked at the home she built and called Varuna, writers would come to visit and stay to work. Thus, she came to understand how much writers benefit from a period of isolation for uninterrupted, concentrated work, alleviated by evenings of free-ranging conversation with small groups of fellow writers.

Aligning your organisation with Varuna, Australia’s Residential Writers House creates unique business and networking opportunities for your organisation, along with the knowledge that you are supporting Australia’s living literary cultural life.

The support we receive from our business partners and foundations is vital to ensuring we continue to support a thriving Australian literary culture that continues to tell unique Australian stories to readers around the world today and for the future.
