In accepting the position, Jansis said:
I am thrilled and proud to have been offered this opportunity. Varuna is an important and unique national institution, and its value in supporting writers the way it does can't be overstated. I can't wait to get started.
Jansis has over fifteen years’ experience in executive management roles, including Brown’s Mart Arts in Darwin and The Blue Room Theatre in Perth. She has helped organisations realise their vision and managed the creative outcomes that followed. She advocates for “the importance of the arts in building healthy, sustainable and rich communities of every size and stripe.”
Jansis is keenly aware of the artistic process, having chaired the board of Fremantle Press, and trained and worked as an actor and director. Her formal education includes an undergraduate degree in theatre arts and literature, post-graduate studies in community development, and training programs in business.
Besides managerial expertise, Jansis brings to the role a passion for assisting the creative process. She recognises Varuna’s success in nurturing writers, providing them with creative space and time, as well as opportunities to engage with professional consultants and other writers. She says, "I know how much Varuna is valued by writers in all mediums, all over the country. Coming from a theatre background, I'm particularly aware of the many playwrights who have benefited enormously from their time in residence here.”
The Board warmly welcomes Jansis and looks forward to working with her.
