In 2018, one Alumni member will be selected through an Expression of Interest application process to receive a writing residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, Ireland.

Only financial members of the Varuna alumni are eligible to apply for the annual Varuna & Tyrone Guthrie Scholarship, which includes four weeks' accommodation, meals and writing time at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, Ireland as well as a return flight to Ireland up to the value of $2,500. 

Expressions of interest open 2 March and will close on 19 March 2018. Applications will be judged on artistic merit and the professional development opportunities presented by the proposed residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. Names will be removed from the applications and the selection will be judged by Varuna Board members Susan Hayes, former director of the Literature Board of the Australia Council for the Arts, and Claire Corbett, teacher of literature, film and creative writing. The winner will be announced on 12 April 2018.

Residencies at Tyrone Guthrie can be taken between January and December 2019, depending on availability.
