The Varuna Alumni Association

 

The Varuna Alumni is a vibrant and creative community of Australian writers and illustrators.

If you have received a Varuna Fellowship or participated in a Varuna Guided Program you are invited to be part of the Varuna Alumni. Varuna Alumni enjoy the following benefits:

Contribute to Varuna and the future of Australian Writing.
Funds raised through the Varuna Alumni make an essential contribution to the maintenance of Varuna house and gardens as a nurturing and comfortable residential house for present and future writers.

Save on Varuna Residencies and Program Application Fees.
Varuna Alumni receive preferential booking status and significant discounts when staying at Varuna (see below). Each calendar year, Alumni can have the application fee waived (up to $55) when applying to one Varuna program.

Connect with a National Network of Writers and Illustrators.
Members can post their profiles on our website, link to our webpage and provide updates on their work and achievements through our social media network. Varuna also sends out regular news to and about the Varuna Alumni including a monthly e-feature written by Alumni member Di Jenkins.

Win a Residential Retreat at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, Ireland.
Each year one Alumni member is selected through ballot to receive a writing residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, in Ireland. All Alumni members are eligible to nominate themselves for this amazing opportunity with the successful recipient receiving return flights to Ireland and up to four weeks residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre.

This award is based on a reciprocal agreement through which Varuna is made available for up to four weeks each year for a visiting international writer who is a member of the Tyrone Guthrie Writers’ Centre Alumni.

 

Annual Alumni Membership

Annual Alumni membership is $110 (GST free). Additional donations are always welcome and are tax deductible.

 

Who is eligible?

Writers and illustrators who have been recipients of a Varuna Retreat Fellowship, Publisher Introduction Program or participated in a Varuna Guided Program are invited to join the Varuna Alumni. The Board may also invite individuals who have made a significant contribution to Varuna to join the Alumni. Membership period

Membership is from January or July for 12 months. Application in the first 6 months of the year will be financial until December (January-December cycle). Fees received after July 1 will be financial until June 30 in the following year (July-June cycle).

Alumni Residencies
